Spiral Flow Test ASTM D3123 The spiral flow test uses a mold with a long spiral flux channel emanating from the center. The notches are engraved along the flow path to help identify the length that the polymer has flowed into the mold. The mold can be filled using a constant speed (constant shear) or a constant pressure (constant strain) to determine the behavior of the polymer. The behavior of the polymer can be evaluated according to the output data of the process, such as the length of the flow, the weight of the piece and the pressure in the transfer. When using the spiral flow test, it is better to use a mold that has a channel thickness similar to that of the pieces that are actually molded. |
